Project 7

Composite with more Smart Filters

I worked again with Smart Filters and utilized and interesting feature called Vanishing Point to merge and align two pictures of the same thing... except that each picture was originally taken from a slightly different vantage point. Using the tool allowed me to alter the snow covered driveway image to very closely match the perspective of the summer version. Without the tool, the driveway would not have lined up. One option would be to grab the side of the image and rotate it slightly, except that there are trees that would now look as if they were leaning. Instead, the vanishing point filter does a better job by skewing and aligning the image to match the perspective of another image. Here is what the original images looked like:

Winter time photo of the same woods roadOnce I succesfully merged the two images, I cleared out some of the snowy pic with a large, soft brush tool. The snow pic was converted to a smart object earlier, and the great thing about using smart filters afterward is that I can always go back and change the filters. For example, I can turn the pencil sketch effect on or off. In fact, I actually don't like the effects filters for this particular image (but I needed to apply one for the assignment). But, either version is easily saved to its own JPEG file using the Save for Web or Devices option under File. The final result is an "artsier" look to the snowy elements in the image:
